IS A SPLIT SYSTEM RIGHT FOR YOU?

When a Split System Makes Sense

A split system is the right choice when you need to heat or cool a specific room or area rather than the whole home. If you want to condition the whole house, a whole-home ducted system is usually the better fit. Not sure which way to go? See how split compares to ducted.

A bedroom, a living room, a home office, a granny flat. Split systems handle these spaces efficiently and at a lower upfront cost than a full ducted system.

They're also the go-to solution for smaller homes or apartments where a ducted install isn't practical.

Modern reverse-cycle split systems both heat and cool, making them effective across Canberra's full climate range. The right unit, correctly sized and properly installed, will run quietly, efficiently, and reliably for well over a decade.

WHAT MAKES A GOOD SPLIT SYSTEM INSTALL

The Difference Is in the Detail

Every split system install involves the same core components:

1. Indoor unit,

2. Outdoor unit,

3. Refrigerant pipework,

4. Drainage

5. Electrical connection.

What varies is how carefully each of those is handled.

Here's what we pay attention to on every job.

Correct placement

Where the indoor unit sits in a room affects how evenly air distributes. We think about airflow before we mount anything, not as an afterthought.

Clean pipework

Pipework runs should be straight, clipped at regular intervals, and neatly finished. It's a visible reflection of the care that goes into the parts you can't see.

Drainage that works

The condensate drain needs to be pitched correctly and secured properly. If it isn't, it will cause problems. We ensure it's right every time.

Correct sizing

An undersized split system runs flat out and never quite reaches temperature. An oversized system short-cycles, switching on and off constantly, wearing out faster and failing to dehumidify the space properly.

We size every system to the room based on a proper assessment, not a guess.

A clean finish

We use drop cloths throughout, clean up fully after the job, and leave your home as we found it, or tidier.

OUR SPLIT SYSTEM PROCESS

How We Handle a Split System Job

01

Initial conversation

We'll talk through your needs - the space you want to condition, how it's used, and what your priorities are. This helps us come prepared to the site visit.

02

On-site assessment

We measure the room, check window orientation and glazing, look at wall and ceiling construction, and work out where the outdoor unit can go. We also check the electrical situation before recommending anything.

03

System recommendation and fixed quote

We recommend the right unit for the space: the right capacity, the right brand, and the right model for your budget. The quote is fixed and itemised.

04

Installation

Zac and Jacksen carry out the install. Most single split system jobs are done in a day. We're tidy, methodical, and don't leave until the system is commissioned and tested.

05

Handover and follow-up

We walk you through the remote and the settings. We follow up after a few days to make sure everything's running as it should. Down the track, we also offer servicing and repairs for split systems.

BRANDS WE INSTALL - SPLIT SYSTEMS

Reliable Brands We Stand By

For split system installs, we work with Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic, and Midea. All are well-suited to Canberra's temperature extremes, carry genuine manufacturer warranties, and have accessible local service support.

If you've already chosen a unit, we're happy to discuss it before the site visit. If we have concerns about the spec for your space, we'll tell you.

SPLIT SYSTEMS FAQ

Questions About Split System Installations

  • How much does a split system installation cost in Canberra?

The total cost includes the unit and the installation. For a standard single split system in a typical residential space, most installs fall between $2,300 and $4,900, depending on the brand, capacity, and how complex the installation is. Things like wall type, distance between indoor and outdoor units, and electrical requirements all play a role. We provide fixed quotes after an in-home assessment, so there are no surprises on the day.

  • How long does a split system installation take?

Most single split system installs are done within a day. Multi-head systems, or jobs with difficult wall or ceiling penetrations, may take longer. We'll give you an accurate timeframe when we quote.

  • Can a split system heat effectively in Canberra winters?

Yes. Modern reverse-cycle split systems from quality brands perform well even at low outdoor temperatures, typically well below 0 degrees Celsius  depending on the model. For cold Canberra winters, a correctly sized unit from a reputable brand will heat effectively. We'll advise on the right model for year-round performance during the assessment.

  • What's included in the installation?

Our quote covers supply of the unit, all refrigerant pipework, pipe lagging, electrical wiring to the nearest existing circuit, condensate drainage, wall penetrations, outdoor unit mounting on a standard ground or wall bracket, system commissioning, clean-up and workmanship guarantee. If additional electrical work is needed, such as a new dedicated circuit, we'll flag this clearly in the quote (upfront - No Surprises!).

  • Do you do multi-head split systems?

Yes. A multi-head system uses a single outdoor unit to supply multiple indoor units in different rooms. It can be a cost-effective solution for conditioning several spaces. We assess and design these systems the same way: correct sizing, balanced airflow, and a quality install.

  • What warranty applies to my split system installation?

The manufacturer's warranty covers the unit itself, typically five years on parts and labour for the brands we install. Our installation warranty covers all workmanship. Both are clearly outlined at handover.
