WHAT A DUCTED SYSTEM DELIVERS

Why Go Ducted?

A ducted reverse-cycle system heats and cools your entire home from a single, central unit. There are no wall-mounted boxes in every room, no competing remotes, and no noise in the spaces where you spend the most time. Air is distributed quietly through ceiling or floor vents, with zone controls letting you manage different parts of the house independently.

For Canberra homes, where the gap between a January afternoon and a July morning can be 40 degrees, whole-home climate control isn't a luxury. It's the right solution.

The upfront cost is higher than a split system and the design process takes more time. But a properly installed ducted system pays back in comfort, efficiency, and liveability for decades.

For a single room or a smaller space,
a split system may suit better. If you're weighing the two up, compare ducted against a split system before you decide."

WHAT CAN GO WRONG

The Risks of a Poor Ducted Install

Most problems with ducted air conditioning trace back to decisions made before the install even started. These are the ones we see most often. If your system runs but some rooms never get there, this is why some ducted systems never heat the whole house.

Undersized system

A system specified too small will run constantly without reaching the target temperature. Power bills climb, the unit wears out early, and the customer is uncomfortable throughout. This almost always comes down to a rushed site assessment or a company willing to install what the customer asks for, rather than what the home actually needs.

Poor ductwork

Pinched ducts, incorrect grille sizing, and not enough return air all choke the system's performance. You can have a properly sized unit delivering the wrong result because of poor ductwork. We design the whole system, not just the unit, and we install it ourselves.

 Drainage problems

An unsecured or badly pitched condensate drain will eventually leak, sometimes into a ceiling cavity, sometimes through a light fitting. It's a simple thing to get right and a costly thing to ignore. We treat drainage as non-negotiable.

No zoning consideration

A ducted system without thoughtful zoning wastes energy heating or cooling rooms that aren't being used. We discuss your household's daily habits during the assessment and design zones that reflect how you actually live.

OUR DUCTED SYSTEM PROCESS

How We Approach a Ducted Install

01

In-home site assessment

We visit your property and work through a detailed assessment, room by room. We measure dimensions, check insulation, assess window orientation and sun exposure, inspect the ceiling cavity, and understand how your household uses the space. We don't recommend anything until we've done this properly.

02

System design

Based on the assessment, Zac designs the system. This includes calculating the right capacity, laying out the ductwork for balanced airflow through the whole home, positioning vents for maximum coverage, and getting the return air right. The design is custom to your home.

03

Fixed quote

You get a detailed, itemised quote that covers the unit, all ductwork and materials, installation labour, electrical connection, commissioning, and clean-up. The price is fixed. Once you accept the quote, it doesn't change unless you ask for something outside the original scope.

04

Installation

Zac and Jacksen carry out the install. Drop cloths go down before we start. We work through the ceiling cavity, ductwork, indoor unit, outdoor unit, and electrical connections in a planned, methodical way. The job isn't finished until the system is commissioned and every zone has been tested.

05

Commissioning and handover

Before we leave, we run the system through its full range, check airflow in every zone, and walk you through the controller. We'll explain how to get the best efficiency from the system and what to watch for as it settles in. You'll have our number for any questions.

06

Follow-up

A few days after the install, we call to check everything is performing as it should. If it isn't, we come back. That's what the warranty means in practice.

SMART CONTROLS

AirTouch 5 - Intelligent Zone Control

For ducted systems, we regularly recommend and install the AirTouch 5 smart controller. This gives you precise, zone-by-zone control of your home's climate from a touchscreen panel, your phone, or via voice control. It learns your patterns, helps cut energy waste, and gives you a clear picture of how the system is running.

We have deep experience with AirTouch 5 and can talk you through whether it's the right fit for your home during the assessment. If you'd like the detail, here's how the AirTouch 5 zone control works.

DUCTED SYSTEMS FAQ

Questions About Ducted Systems

  • How do I know what size ducted system I need?

Sizing is worked out through a proper load calculation that accounts for your home's floor area, ceiling height, insulation, window types, orientation, and how the household uses the space. It can't be done accurately over the phone.

We carry out an in-person assessment before recommending any system, and we won't install an undersized unit, even if a customer has sourced their own. If it has our name attached to the job, it's done correctly, with integrity.

  • How long does a ducted installation take?

Most residential ducted installs take two to three days, depending on the size of the home and how accessible the ceiling cavity is. We'll give you an accurate estimate during the quoting process so you can plan around it. Give us a call to discuss and arrange a suitable time.

  • Can ducted systems be zoned?

Yes. Zoning lets you independently control different areas of the home, for example running the bedrooms at a different temperature to the living areas, or turning off zones that aren't in use. This improves comfort and reduces running costs. We factor zoning into the design of every ducted system we install. The Airtouch 5 is a fantastic solution if zoning is important to you.

  • What brands do you recommend for ducted systems in Canberra?

We regularly install Daikin (as default), Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic, and Midea ducted systems are also excellent. All perform well in Canberra's climate and carry strong manufacturer warranties. The right choice depends on your home's specific requirements and your budget. We'll walk you through the options during the assessment.

  • What does the warranty cover?

Yes. We service and repair most major brands regardless of who installed them. If it's something outside our scope, we'll tell you straight.

  • How do I maintain a ducted system?

Annual servicing is the most important step. It keeps the system running efficiently, extends its lifespan, and picks up small issues before they become expensive. Cleaning the filters more regularly is also helpful, particularly in homes with pets or dusty conditions.

We offer annual servicing for all systems we install and for most other major brands.
